Converting an old industrial space into a home.
A mezzanine with iron-beam structure and floor in the same prized wood used for boats characterises the space of the kitchen that has a long worktop; this acts as the unifying element between the more operative areas of the kitchen itself and the living room of which it is a part. The top, which is covered with small grey ceramic tiles, accentuates the horizontal nature of the space and extends lengthways along the entire wall of the living room, large drawers below included. Only a thin white wall (which has shelving of simple design resting against it) separates the purely operative area of the kitchen from the dining area. Furniture, objects, and bibelots are deliberately simple, such as the large table made (on a design by architect Lazzaro Raboni) with salvaged planks for the top and iron legs.
