Chi continua a pensare che la casa sull’albero è solo un sogno da bambini, sbaglia di grosso. Questo progetto del costruttore americano John Rouches va ben oltre la casa: concepisce un vero e proprio home work, con tanto di attrezzature e collegamenti.

Who continues to think that a treehouse is just a child’s dream makes a blunder. This plan of the American builder John Rouches goes well beyond the house: it conceives a real home work, complete with equipments and connections.

Senza dubbio questo esempio di home work, ambientato niente meno che su di un albero, batte per originalità tutti gli altri. Il costruttore americano John Rouches, seguendo l’esempio del suo socio Peter Nelson, famoso progettista di
“case sugli alberi”, ha deciso di crearsi uno spazio per lavorare costruendolo nei boschi dello stato di Washington.
Le “tree houses” presentano numerosi vantaggi: non hanno bisogno di scavi né di opere di fondazione e non necessitano di pilastri di sostegno; inoltre chi le abita ha la sensazione di vivere in comunione con la natura. L’ufficio di Rouches è appoggiato su di una piattaforma, raggiungibile attraver- so dei gradini, che è a sua volta sostenuta in tre angoli da alberi di cedro esistenti e nel quarto da un sostegno appositamente costruito. L’elettricità entra in casa grazie ai cavi che corrono sottoterra per poi arrampicarsi sugli alberi; allo stesso modo arrivano le linee del telefono e del cablaggio.

Without doubt this example of home work, set no less than on a tree, overcomes all the others for originality. The American builder John Rouches , following the example of his partner Peter Nelson, famous designer of “treehouses”, has decided to create a working space in the woods of the Washington state. The “treehouses” present numerous advantages: they do not need either excavations or works of foundation or supporting pillars; besides, who
dwells in it has the sensation to live close to nature. Rouches’ office is put on a platform reachable through some stairs; the platform is, in its turn, supported by existing citron trees respectively in three corners and in the fourth by a support that has been built on purpose.

La pianta interna nasce dal lavoro della moglie di Rouches, Inga, e della sua amica interior designer Sally Owen. L’abitazione è stata concepita per avere una duplice funzione: casa per gli ospiti e studio. Il piano di lavoro è costituito da un tavolo ribaltabile che, una volta richiuso, lascia lo spazio disponibile per il letto matrimoniale, formato da due letti singoli uno sotto l’altro. Normalmente, quando l’ufficio è operativo, il letto si presenta come singolo; solo quando il piano di lavoro scompare lungo la parete, la stanza riacquista la sua funzione di camera matrimoniale. Il computer è appoggiato su di un piano fisso, posto in piena luce, sotto le grandi finestre, e rimane sempre in questa
posizione. Mai come in questo caso un’abitazione è stato concepita per integrarsi con la natura.

The house has been conceived to have a double function: guest house and studio.

Electricity enters the house thanks to cables that run underground and climb up on the trees; telephone and wiring lines arrive in the same way. The inner plan is due to the work of Rouches’ wife, Inga, and her friend Sally Owen, who is interior designer. The house has been conceived to have a double function: guest house and studio. The work top is constituted by a tip-up table that, once closed, leaves available space for the double bed, formed by two single beds placed one under the other. Normally, when the office is operative, the bed is single; only when the work top disappears along the wall, the room regains the function of double room. The computer is put on a fixed top, in full light, under the big windows, and always remains in this position. Never like in this case, a house has been conceived to become integrated with nature.
